Egg confusion.
@ 19.04.2006 – 22:32:45
In my daughters school there is going to be a paint an egg competition. A good mother as I am I rushed out today to buy eggs so she had something to paint on. To my surprise I could not find white eggs
Where are all the white eggs
We have brown eggs in Norway too, but we also have white. I asked a Tesco man who happened to be from Ghana. He said that in Ghana they also had both, a woman overhearing our conversation was of the opinion that people prefered brown eggs because they thought they were healthier. I suppose you have brown bread vs white bread, brown rice vs white rice, brown pasta vs white pasta, but brown eggs vs white eggs?? What should the children paint on, and perhaps more importantly what has happened to the hen type who lay white eggs, or their eggs?

Porridge horror
@ 02.03.2006 – 21:52:48
I have a 10 months old baby who suffers from milk and egg allergy, so I have gotten really good at reading all kinds of food lables both for food for her and for me as I am also on a dairy and egg-free diet because I still breastfeed. I must admit that in this progress I have become a bit blind for other ingredients than egg and milk as I scan for those two ingredients. The other day I consentrated though when I read the porridge lable (Yes I am Blond
) and to my horror and shock I discovered they are packed with sugar!
I have come to the conclution that this must be some kind of conspiracy! Someone out there want to get the very smallest citizens of the UK hooked on sugar. Please tell me if there is a breakfast porridge I am not aware of for babies enriched with iron and vitamins. At the moment I am carrying loads of such porridge in my luggage everytime I come from Norway, I guess someone is soon going to accuse me of smuggeling. -
Lunchbox rage
@ 01.02.2006 – 16:14:54
Lunchboxes.. The source of nutrients and energy for the rest of the day for the little ones at school.. What powers we have, we as in adults and parents, we get to decide what they eat..or do we not??
At my six year old daughter's school they have packed lunches which I think is a good thing because then I am as a parent still left in charge of what my percious daughter puts in her mouth.
Now this is not always so easy because of peer pressure. Why would any parent choose to give their daughters and sons lunchboxes made in hell? White bread, cheese strings, crsips, chocholate, biscuits other processed foods claiming to be good like cereal bars. Read the labels parents! They are full of sugars! And what does sugar do to us? It rapidly raises our energy level in a steep curve for then to drop to under what it used to be. Result in school children is boysterous and loud children high on sugar. When the initial rush has worn off they feel tired and their ability to concentrate has dropped signinficantly.
Why would anyone want this for their child? Why do most children get this crap in their lunchboxes? Is it because people do not know what it leads to? Is it because parents are too weak to take the fight and be the ones who rules the household, not the children? Or is it because it was like this when they went to school so why not continue?
It is however rather tireing to have to tell my six year old over and over again that the reason she does not have chocholate, crisps or other unhealthy things in her lunchbox is because I love her and want her to grow up to be healthy and strong (like her mother
) I can see a much easier solution, BAN UNHEALTHY FOOD IN SCHOOLS! Why can they not only be allowed wholemeal bread (and the like) and fruit and veg as snacks. If that was the rule and everybody had to stick to it I do not believe the children would object for long. Other countries do this, so why not in the UK?I for one refuse to give my child a lunchbox which is damaging to her health and makes her less susceptible to learning.

Crappy Crisps
@ 12.01.2006 – 22:34:38
What is wrong with a huge percentage of British parents?
Why on earth would they give their children something so fatty and unhealthy to eat on a regular basis. I overheard a mother in the park the other day saying to her child: "Come on Jack, be a good boy and eat your crisps" Not only was the child offered crisps, he was also encouraged to eat this crap which I cannot bring myself to call food.
Why would anyone expose their children to something that holds virtually no nutritional value on a regular basis? Crisps are packed with artery-clogging saturated fat and the salt content of a 35 gram pack counts for half the RDA (recommended daily allowance)of a six year old.One in five children are now overweight in Britain.
The obesity epidemic means many children are contracting medical conditions associated more typically with middle age, such as diabetes. Now crisps alone is not responsible for this as many parents feed their children too much fatty, salty and sugary food, but stop eating crisps regulary and getting out of the sofa would be one step closer to a healthier life.I am not impressed with Gary Lineker, someone associated with sports and therefore a healthy lifestyle campaigning for eating more crisps. Shame on you Mr. Lineker!
Be a good parent do not feed your children Crappy Crisps!

Headlights
@ 16.12.2005 – 13:22:19
Why cannot the drivers in the UK leave their headlight on at all times? If headlights are used correctly they will not dazzle or cause discomfort to other road users. Quite the opposite. All moving vehicles will be more visible to anyone out and about in the traffic. In certain West European countries you are prohibited to use headlights at all times. This is a great asset especially to children. Their eyes are not matured until they reach the age of 12 and they may believe that a car is standing still when it is in reality moving, and it goes without saying that this creates very dangerous situations, which perhaps can be avoided with the use of headlights. And who of us who are drivers can say we never daydream and always concentrate hard when we are in the traffic? I certainly can not. I am only too happy to see others in the traffic more clearly which I believe you do if headlights are used!

Pennies are Pants
@ 07.12.2005 – 20:59:34
What is a strong economy like the British doing with such a petty litte coin like the Penny. It is not worth anything! What can you buy for a penny? To most of us it is just an annoying purse filler. If one is found on the floor it is often ignored and left there, even the children do not bother to pick it up! So it Litters! Retailers take advantage and use it in a psychological game, knowing that most customers feel commodities are much cheaper if they cost £99.99 rather than £100! In reality it is just litter they give in exchange! If you start to fiddle in your wallet trying to dig out your good for nothing change so you do not need to get any more, the eyes of the customer behind you are boring into you, and the checkout worker is getting clearly annoyed at this delay.
Countries comparable to the UK have done something with their smallest change, the British too should rid themselves of the embarrassment the Penny is.
